College. Work. Stress. Partying. Classes. Hunger. Sleep.
Ask any college sleep if they get at least 8 hours of sleep each night and I guarantee you will get a big fat NO. Sleep is like a unheard of thing in college. Actually, let me rephrase that, time is an unheard of thing in college. Time just isn’t real. Your 9 am classes will feel like 5 am classes, 10 pm will feel like 6 pm, and 2 am will become your average bedtime if you’re lucky, feeling like 10 pm. Time is just a big mumble-jumble mess– sorry to all first grade teachers, you taught us all that for nothing.
But really, time is so weird in college. Deadlines are the only things relating to time that you actually pay attention to. Half the time, sleep isn’t even an option if you have a paper due. Oh your paper is due tomorrow morning? Looks like you’re pulling an all-nighter, grab the coffee. Weekends are probably the greatest days to a college student. It means sleeping all day- and I mean ALL DAY.
On an average night, you’re lucky if you get about 5-6 hours of sleep. That is a healthy amount of sleep for a college student. Then there’s the people who get 3-4, those people can survive the day, but will probably crash at certain points. After the 3-4 hours of sleep group, the next group would be the quick little nap. Barely enough sleep. And then there’s the people who don’t sleep– like Vampires. I don’t know how some people do it, but these guys can go DAYS without sleeping, running on solely coffee/energy drinks. These guys are like super heroes.
Long story short, appreciate sleep while you can. Naps are essential. Take care of yourself.
